How British-made steel elements helped bring shape, strength and lasting definition to a show garden rooted in plant folklore.
At BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2026, The Folklorians Garden designed by Kate Patrick – The Messy Allotmenteer, set out to tell a story through planting, folklore and carefully considered detail. EverEdge was proud to help give that story its structure, supplying steel elements designed to define the space, we created bespoke 2.13m tall moongates at either end of the circular design and used EverEdge 300mm deep Corten Titan to create the circular layout and provide support to the finished garden.
From Design to Workshop to Show Garden
Every element had to be designed and manufactured with accuracy in mind. Measurements, curves, edges and finishes were carefully considered so the steel could be installed efficiently and safely on site and perform throughout the build, judging and public opening.
That is where EverEdge steel comes into its own. Robust, low-maintenance and made to last, it gives designers and landscapers dependable lines to work from, while allowing planting to remain the focus. The bespoke moongates and edging were designed by our in-house CAD technician and modified with anchor points around the top edge of the Corten Titan to allow willow to be woven around and up over the moonarches creating the magical forest like appearance.
Steelwork That Tells a Story
The finished steelwork became far more than a functional feature. It helped define the garden’s thresholds, frame its planting and add a sense of permanence to a temporary show space. Against the softness of leaves and flowers, the metal introduced strength, contrast and a beautifully crafted edge.
Creating the steel elements for The Messy Allotmenteer’s Folklorians Garden was a chance to demonstrate how bespoke metalwork can elevate a garden design. Strong, sculptural and full of atmosphere, these pieces helped turn an imaginative concept into a memorable show garden experience — proving that, in the right hands, steel can become part of the story.
