Pallet Delivery Delays

Exceptional volumes are going through the pallet networks in the UK and this is leading to some delays to pallets being delivered.

We have been sent the following information from our pallet delivery supplier, Palletforce. The message seeks to explain why there are more delays in the system than we have traditionally experienced.

“We are all acutely aware of the exceptional challenges facing the entire UK logistics industry at the moment with a perfect storm of sustained volumes, asset capacity and driver shortage beginning to brew. The whole industry has experienced unprecedented surges in volumes this year driven by increased domestic transport due to both Brexit and the recovery of the UK economy as COVID-19 restrictions ease. This has been compounded by the ongoing lack of availability of vehicles and trailers and the closure of DVSA driver testing sites over the last few months, creating a huge backlog of new drivers who have been unable to join the industry and increase driver capacity.

Because of these challenges impacting the entire industry, more freight is being put through networks. Recent Association of Pallet Network figures show that volumes in March were up nearly 30% – this is after an 11% increase in 2020.”
